BIOGRAPHY: Glass Artist Dan Alexander
Dan Alexander first became interested in glass after watching a glass blowing demonstration at a small studio in Ohio. Yes, glass was an intriguing material that he must experience first hand!
Dan continued his interest in glass as a student at Kent State University. He received a BA in Fine Arts degree with a concentration in glass art. Hale Fame and Village, a traditional glass factory, hired Dan he while still a student. Soon, he became a head gaffer making high production pieces.
After graduation emerged onto the glass art scene. Quickly, he was hired as a Team Leader in a new program that was started at the Corning Museum of Glass. There, he educated his audiences about the history of glass making, chemistry and properties of glass. In addition, he demonstrated the technical skill required to create a fine-crafted glass object.
Since then, Dan has traveled the world working with many internationally known glass artists. He has studied with Elio Quariso, Martin Janecky, Dante Marioni, James Mongrain and Davide Fuin. In fact, he spent several months working with Davide Salvadore in his private studio in Murano, Italy. These experiences have given Dan the tools needed to create some of the most beautiful glass to be found anywhere!
Currently, Dan is the Hotshop Director for Third Degree Glass Factory. He teaches college courses for Washington University. Dan also creates custom glass commissions for many clients around the world.
