This is a classic Venetian “Sail” form vase, inspired by centuries on water. Much as the blues and greens of the sun and sky play on water, they dance throughout this piece. Most noteworthy, there is an axis from the yellow-green eye on the front of the piece. Then it passes straight through to the calming blue field on the reverse, framed in avventurine cane. In addition, the white reticello fragment provides an unexpected window into a piece that is already alive with transparent color!
Notice the way Afro used pieces of avventurine and black cane in subtle and unexpected combination with some of his signature elements. Because this signature element is in each piece, the series is known as “Avventurine Rinascita”.
